I’m a friend of the Hayward Library because what’s not to like?! My family has fond memories of the library…from story time when the kids were little, chess tournaments, book clubs,…just finding that special read. A magical place we want to support.!

Our two daughters, both graduates from the University of California education system, benefited greatly from the old Hayward Public Library. The library offered them a quiet and inviting place to do their homework. It was also a place where we as parents could enjoy watching them expand their interests and passions through reading. As adults, the library has always been a great place for self-education.

I’m a friend and promoter of books and reading because the availability of written words that allows each of us to think, reflect and come to our own conclusions. Remember, books have been destroyed by many anti-democratic institutions and governments. Books are sacred!

I see so many people using the library on a daily basis, either catching up on the news, reading for pleasure or research, or using the computer resources. It’s great to see the community make use of this valuable resource. All will benefit from the new library!

Libraries are places that nurture the spirit and aspirations of people of all ages. Books and the kinds of arts activities that this state of the art library will offer can literally save the lives of people searching for meaning and inspiration.

I remember as a child going to the New Hartford Public Library in New Hartford Iowa every Saturday. Mrs. Nieman, the librarian, introduced me to reading through books like the Hardy Boys & Nancy Drew Mystery Series. I did not realize at the time the door she was opening for me.
