Libraries were my playground growing up. When I became a teen, I made lifelong friends and expanded my horizons in book club. In college librarians helped me learn how to do research and find credible sources. I believe libraries are well springs of knowledge and an important pillar of a thriving community. Libraries are places to gather, places to learn, places of refuge and growth.

My mother was an avid patron of her local library and a great lover of knowledge, books and the written word; I inherited her love for this wonderful, free and vital community resource.

HAYWARD is the first city we lived since we moved to US from China. Our family has a lot of sweet memories here, and our daughters really enjoy playing in Hayward library. We always appreciate what we got from all the nice people here.

We believe that the Hayward Public Library is one of the greatest community assets that our city offers to its residents. Having a library in town is like having a treasure chest of the imagination and of ideas, available to all.

My older brother was autistic and had many learning-related limitations, but he loved books and libraries. He passed away unexpectedly 13 years ago. On our last day together, he asked me to take him to the Hayward Library. Every time I pass the library, I am reminded of him and his love of reading. I want future generations to enjoy the library as much as he did.

Books matter. Reading matters. Everyone should be able to read and expand their knowledge in free libraries.

As a child, the public library was a second home to my sisters and I. To this day, I remain an avid reader, with library cards from seven different libraries! Now, instead of going to a physical library to check out/return books, I use my kindle. I thank the LORD for public libraries and the influence of books in my life. I am also an educator, writer and poet. God has been very good to me!

I am a friend of the Hayward Library because it supports learning for all ages. The Library was the first place I took my daughter when we relocated to Hayward over 25 years ago and remains a valuable resource to the community today.

Cara is a teacher at All Saints Catholic School and an avid reader. She knows first hand the value of reading for fun and knowledge has on her students.

During my 20+ years as a Hayward Rotarian, I have been a part of The Hayward Rotary Club’s efforts to provide the resources Hayward Families need. As a Past President of the Hayward Rotary, I am proud of our sponsorship of the Hayward Rotary Children’s Reading room with a Club Grant of $100,000 to the Hayward Library using funds our Club Presidents annually direct towards Community Needs.

The library is always my favorite place in any locale in which I find myself. In my younger days, whenever we moved, the librarian was always my first new friend.

I’m a friend of the library because books and reading opens a whole world to each of our lives. The library is the key and portal to that world.
